For most people the first thing that comes to mind when they hear the name Chamonix-Mont Blanc is alpine skiing. And quite rightly so, the legendary Grand - Montets was once described by a famous Swedish skier as the best mountain for skiing in the world. And that is only a fraction of the area. There are the southern slopes of Brevent/Flegere, Les Houches with its renowned downhill slope, and of course, for the more adventurous skier, the Aiguille du Midi.
In the heart of alpinism, of course climbing plays a big part. Some of the world’s best climbers are born and raised in Chamonix, and there is no coincidence that the world’s very first mountain guide association, “Compagnie des guides de Chamonix”, was founded here as early as 1921.
But you don’t need to be a professional to appreciate the climbing, there are routes of all difficulties and a number of schools that are happy to give you an introduction.
In 1741, the first tourists to Chamonix were transported to Montenvers on the backs of mules in order to admire the glaciers. Today, the Chamonix valley is a Mecca for hikers at all levels, from a couple of hours walk on “petit balcon sud” to a week’s trail through three different countries when attempting the “Tour de Mont Blanc”
Golf in Chamonix? No it is not a joke, the golf course nestles between the Mont Blanc range and the Aiguilles Rouges. You would think that playing golf in the alps would be more of a hike in the mountains, but no, the 6188 meter Robert Trent Jones Senior creation meanders like a snake through the valley and is well worth a visit. But be careful, you might admire the scenery so much that you forget your golf game.
Here we serve our rich breakfast as well as our three-course dinners in the evening. The food is inspired by the French and Swedish cuisines and of course prepared with the best ingredients. To make the dining experience even better, we offer a well-stocked wine list with both local and international wines.
